(Sleep in the jungle) Day 3 - We drive to Arenal Volcano in the afternoon / hot springs (sleep in Arenal en Los Lagos) Day 4- Floating Safari on Rio Peñas Blancas national Park in the afternoon (sleep en Los Lagos) Day 5- Monteverde / Selva Tour / Canopy or Hanging Bridges (Sleep in Monteverde) Day 6- Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (sleep in Manuel Antonio) National Park. Day 1- Pick up at the airport On the way to Turrialba, you will enjoy San José –The Capital-, a scenic drive through the mountains, past sugar and coffee plantations, lush green countryside and we will stop in Cartago to show you the most important church in Costa Rica. You will be amazed – Guess Why?- Your guide will be happy to describe Costa Rican culture and more… Spend the night outside of Turrialba at Casa Turire. Day2 and 3- Overnight Rafting Trip on the Pacuare River (Spend one night at camp) The Pacuare River, known as the Rio Pacuare, is one of the jewels of Costa Rica, and according to National Geographic, which has ranked the river as one of the top ten rivers in the world. The heart pounding whitewater along with its remote jungle location and its warm water (71 degrees Fahrenheit) make this a popular destination for adventurous travelers seeking a whitewater induced adrenaline rush. This river is great for beginners and still thrills Day 3 - We drive to Arenal Volcano in the afternoon / hot springs (spend the night in La Fortuna at Los Lagos Resort) Arenal Volcano is by far the most active volcano in Costa Rica and one of the most active in the world with daily small eruptions. Hot springs and tours to see the volcano are on tap everyday Day 4- Ecoglide Canopy tour in the morning and after lunch, a floating wildlife safari on the Río Peñas Blancas (spend the night in La Fortuna at Los Lagos Resort) Experience the peacefulness of the forest while traveling on Peñas Blancas River, and getting the chance to observe different animals such as monkeys, sloth, iguanas, tortoises, crocodiles, and dozens of species of aquatic and forest birds. The Canopy Tour offers everyone an exhilarating opportunity to soar through the rain forest high above the forest floor. We do ours with Ecoglide which is recognized as the very best in the La Fortuna area. Under the auspices of professional guides, you will reach speeds of over 40 miles per hour on the zip lines sometimes hundreds of feet above the forest floor. Day 5- Monteverde / Selva Tour / Canopy or Hanging Bridges (Spend the night in Monteverde at the Fonda Vela) We will take you to Selvatura Park where you can choose between a 2 hour zip line tour through the treetops or a hike over the dozen hanging bridges. Both give a unique perspective to this unique ecosystem of cloud forest. Day 6- Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (spend the night in Manuel Antonio at the SiComoNo)MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST RESERVE Straddling the Continental Divide at 1440 meters (4662 ft), the Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forest area offers one of the most interesting places to visit in Costa Rica. In the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve are found more than 100 species of mammals including 5 species of cats, over 400 species of birds including 30 kinds of hummingbirds, tens of thousands of insect species (over 5000 species of moths and butterflies) and 2,500 species of plants (420 kinds of orchids). The area is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the western hemisphere. We make an early morning trip into the reserve with a professional naturalist guide who will help unlock the secrets of the cloud forest ecosystems for you. With luck we will catch a glimpse of the elusive Resplendent Quetzal! We will stop off at the Hummingbird Porch for great up close photos of multiple species of these fascinating birds. Day 7- Beach, Manuel Antonio National Park and Sunset San José. Perhaps it is so popular because of its intimate white sand beaches backed soaring rocky cliffs and rainforest that grows right up to the high tide line. The wildlife here is abundant, and up close. You will have the opportunity to get pictures of sloths, monkeys, iguanas, coatimundis, and more. There is quite a varied fauna with 109 species of mammals and 184 of birds. Day 8- Beach, sun and Dolphin watching (sleep in Alajuela or in Manuel Antonio) Come aboard and see the many dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and birds of the Manuel Antonio Marine Preserve. Enjoy a feast of fresh fruits, grilled fish brochettes, pasta salad, drinks and the finest hospitality. There is also an option for snorkeling instead of the dolphin tour.
